Responsibilities: The Avon Police Chief is responsible for providing leadership and strategic vision to the Police Department. The Chief manages a budget of $2.5 million, which includes 18 sworn and 2 civilian employees and reports to the Avon Town Manager.
Background: Greg was born and raised in Ireland. He previously worked in banking in Ireland and he graduated from University College Dublin with an Honors degree in Financial Services. He moved to Colorado in 1994 to experience the “Ski life”. He then decided that his vocation was police work, attended the CLETA police academy in August 1995 and he joined the Eagle County Sheriffs Office in April 1996. He later returned to Ireland and continued to work as a reserve for the Sheriff’s office. He returned to Colorado in 2002 and worked with the Sheriff’s office for a further 6 years. He worked as a patrol deputy, a field training officer, a SWAT team operator, fitness coordinator, defensive tactics instructor and then became a patrol Sergeant in 2006. He earned 4 commendations in that period. Greg came to the town of Avon in July 2008 to fill the new position of Police Lieutenant. Greg subsequently promoted to the position of Chief of Police in September 2016. In addition Greg is the Team Commander for the multi-agency Eagle County Special Operations Unit.
Family: Greg is married and is a proud father to a boy and a girl.
Rewards/Goals: Greg’s reward is making a positive difference, every day to the health, safety and welfare of the residents and guests in the Town of Avon. Greg’s goal is help in getting the Avon Police Department accredited by the national standards organization, C.A.L.E.A. (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies)
