Town of Avon Announces an Abundance of 2019 Summer Activities & Special Events at Harry A. Nottingham Park
Concerts, Festivals, Sporting Events and Activities, and July 3rd Salute to the USA extravaganza will be in the center of Avon this summer
Avon, CO –With summer excitement building, the Town of Avon announces its full 2019 event schedule. Harry A. Nottingham Park and the spectacular Avon Performance Pavilion will again be the prominent gathering centers for both everyday enjoyment and major outdoor events. A new Fit Court will be finished in June and is expected to be a frequently used attraction in the park, along with the upgraded volleyball courts and uniquely wonderful beach. SUP and paddleboat rentals will return with the lake open to all SUP enthusiasts beginning Memorial Day Weekend.
The 2019 event lineup offers a blend of free and ticketed events, including the return of the Vail Valley Brew Fest at Avon in late June. Soccer and lacrosse tournaments, Saturday yoga at the pavilion, triathlon stagings, Salute to the USA, Dancing in the Park, an open water swim tournament, and free concerts all bring vibrant participant and spectator occasions to the park.
The fourth annual Town Clean Up Day, a chance for residents to do some spring cleaning around Town, will happen on Friday, June 14th. The Town will be divided into ten sections, with Town Staff captaining each section. Volunteer registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Avon Performance Pavilion, located at Harry A. Nottingham Park. The clean-up will take place between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., after which volunteers will head back to Harry A. Nottingham Park for free tacos and beers, provided by Rocky Mountain Taco and Vail Brewing Company.
The Avon LIVE! community concert series kicks off on June 19th and will offer seven exceptional evenings of free live music in June, July and August, rain or shine! The Wednesday evening music series features award-winning national talent and provides the community an opportunity to come together and experience music, fresh and unique foods from food trucks and enjoy a summer evening outside.
The Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge, a new event to Avon, will kick off on June 20th, and will bring three days of intense canine competition to Harry A. Nottingham Park. This nationally televised event showcases some of the best dogs in the country competing in a variety of canine sports. Come out and watch dogs of all breeds compete in events like the Incredible Mountain Dog Competition, Agility, Diving Dog, Flying Disc, Fetch It, Jack Russell Hurdle Racing and more! Bleacher seating and free admission are open to humans and well-behaved dogs on leash.
June events will wrap up with the Vail Valley Brew Fest at Avon on June 30th. This second-year Avon event will feature samples of some of the best brews in the high country and across Colorado and great live music at the amazing Avon Performance Pavilion on Nottingham Lake. The event will be preceded by the Rocky Mountain Brew Run, allowing participants to run a 5k, then celebrate with beer!
An Avon tradition, the 33rd annual Berkshire Hathaway Salute to the USA will take place on Wednesday, July 3rd beginning at 5:00 p.m. with family friendly festivities going on throughout the park. Face painters, stilt walkers, balloon sculptors, magicians and Kids Zone fun will be complimented by beverages and a large selection of food options lining the main field grounds. Live music will add to the event ambiance, followed by the most amazing fireworks display Colorado has to offer!
A night of exceptional contemporary dance, presented by the Vail Dance Festival, will be at the Pavilion this summer on August 7th, with performances by Alonzo King LINES Ballet and Colorado Ballet. Dancing in the Park! features family-friendly, high-energy and elegant performances under the experienced direction of VDF Artistic Director Damian Woetzel. These free evenings of incomparable dance are supported by the Town in recognition of the importance of offering an array of art and cultural productions at the Pavilion to deepen experiences in the arts in Avon’s beautiful natural environment.
A new circus comes to Avon on August 16th through August 18th with several performances scheduled each day. Circus Bella is a classic circus reimagined for a modern world, and features thrilling feats, engaging camaraderie and the heartbeat of a live band! Tickets will be on sale soon, so stay tuned!
August will wrap up with Avon hosting Stage 2 of the Colorado Classic. For the first time in history, the western hemisphere’s premier women’s standalone race will be in a different Colorado town or city for each stage of the race. The Avon course has yet to be finalized, but the race is known for tough climbs, spectacular sprints and fan-friendly circuits. There will be a Colorado Classic Expo in Nottingham Park, celebrating cycling, health, fitness, and women’s empowerment with a curated array of exhibitors, events, and food and beverage experiences.
A Cardboard Boat Regatta and Community Picnic will be late additions to the August calendar, with dates to be determined.
Pop Up Strings returns to the Event Terrace on Sunday, September 1st, allowing locals and guests a time to unwind and relax with live classical and contemporary music. Refreshing beverages will be available, and these performances bring an eclectic array of musical styles, from classical strings to Spanish guitars, all performed by musicians from Colorado’s most esteemed symphonies and philharmonics.
Major League Triathlon (MLT) is excited to announce 970 AvonFest, a three-day festival celebrating endurance sports and the Town of Avon. The three-day festival weekend will host its inaugural event on the weekend of September 6th-8th, and will feature triathlon, running, cycling and swimming events for amateur and professional athletes. 970 AvonFest will also feature two days of free concerts, kids zones (inflatables and games), food vendors, interactive expo, beer and wine garden, VIP hospitality, lawn games, and much more.
The 2019 Man of the Cliff is expected back October 12th and 13th for a lumberjack/jill competition. Start growing your beards and working those muscles in time for this exceptional gathering.
