jcurutchet@avon.org Avon Recreation Center Ice Sheets to Open Friday, December 21st
Town of Avon residents and guests advised to stay off Nottingham Lake during winter months
Avon, CO – The Avon Recreation Department will open two ice sheets to the public on Friday, December 21st. The ice sheet outside the Avon Recreation Center, located at 90 Lake Street, will be family and children oriented, while a second sheet in the south east corner of the Nottingham Park soccer field will be geared towards hockey and games.
Skate rentals are available at the Avon Recreation Center for $8. All adult and children’s sizes are available, including ‘double runners,’ meant for children learning to skate. The ice sheets will be open to the public during regular recreation center hours, weather and ice dependent. There is no charge to use the ice sheets with your own skates. Please respect ice closure signs. Skating on soft ice is dangerous and damages the ice surface for future use.
The Town of Avon is asking residents and guests to stay off the Nottingham Lake ice during the winter months. Avon Public Works Director Gary Padilla said that his team cannot ensure public safety on the lake and asked all residents and visitors to stay off the ice throughout the winter months. This includes keeping pets on a leash away from the ice.
