Avon Recreation Center Recovers All Operational Expenses in 2017
Mindful spending, increase in visitation and participation contribute to facility success
Avon, CO – For the first time in the history of the Town, the Avon Recreation Department recovered all of its operational expenses through program and admission revenues in 2017. Since the Rec Center opened in 1995, the Town has subsidized the facility to varying degrees. In 2007, the department recovered 54% of its expenses and in 2014, the department was at 64% expense recovery. The 100% cost recovery in 2017 is attributed to a variety of factors, including increased program participation, visitation and pass sales, coupled with mindful spending.
“We have a dynamic staff of recreation professionals that are committed to offering top tier programs and facilities,” said Recreation Director, John Curutchet. “I could not be prouder of the incredible work that they all do.”
According to Curutchet, annual subsidies are normal for public recreation center operations. In 2017, the rec center had a surplus of $8,897, an improvement after recovering 99% of costs in 2016.
