Mighty Mites Volleyball Clinics at Avon Elementary School

Avon, Colorado- The Avon Recreation Department kick off its Mighty Mites Volleyball Clinic for 2^nd through 5^th graders on January 25^th. The six-week long clinic offers youth participants the opportunity to learn and practice volleyball skills under the guidance of community volunteers, including the Battle Mountain High School Volleyball team, led by Coach Jason Fitzgerald.

“The Huskies’ goal is to always create a fun, positive and challenging atmosphere for volleyball. This is a great chance to work with BMHS players on skills and drills,” said Volleyball Coach, Jason Fitzgerald. The Battle Mountain High School Volleyball team has partnered with the Avon Recreation Department to offer a community program run by the coach and students. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Battle Mountain High School Volleyball team as a fundraiser. “The idea of creating a program that supports local schools was a no-brainer,” stated Recreation Supervisor, Matt Koch. “I envision this model expanding beyond volleyball to other sports. I think we are laying seed for this to become an opportunity for student athletes to give back for years to come.”

That sentiment was echoed by Avon Elementary School Assistant Principal, Dana Harrison, who expressed her excitement, “We are excited to offer this volleyball program with our community partners, the Avon Recreation Department and the coaches and athletes from Battle Mountain High School. These programs are inspirational for our students and very well received by our families. The first basketball clinic that was held was a huge success and quickly reached capacity, and we hope for the same success with the volleyball clinic and future offerings. It is my hope that through these partnerships we will continue to inspire our students to join team sports and that one day they will return to Avon Elementary School to mentor future students.”
