Head for the Hills to Headline Major League Triathlon Vail Valley at Avon, CO Race and Festival- 8/26/2017
Charlotte, NC – Major League Triathlon (MLT) is excited to announce Head for the Hills as the headliner for MLT’s FREE music festival for MLT Vail Valley at Avon, CO on Saturday August 26th. The four time awarded “Best Bluegrass Band in Colorado” has remained true to the roots of bluegrass, making music that reaches into jazz, indie rock, hip hop, soul, world and folk to stich together cutting edge songs that bridge the divide between past and future acoustic music. They have performed in hundreds of concerts to cheering crowds across the nation. Their music is reflective, but buoyant, restorative and full of vibrancy. Head for the Hills is at their absolute peak, firing on all cylinders and winning the hearts and minds of audiences wherever they go.
“We are thrilled to have Head for the Hills headline a trio of outstanding bands which will be performing at the Avon Performance Pavilion in Harry A. Nottingham Park. We have put together an exciting and innovative day which begins at noon and goes until 8:00 PM and we invite everyone in the greater Vail Valley area and beyond to join us, “ said MLT’s CEO, Daniel Cassidy.”
In addition to the great music, Colorado’s first ever Major League Triathlon Mixed Team Relay race will take place at 3:00 p.m. the same day in Nottingham Park. Major League Triathlon (MLT) is the first and only professional triathlon league in the U.S. The 8 city aligned teams compete in a mixed gender team-based relay where each person on each team will finish all three disciplines of triathlon (swimming, biking and running) before tagging their next teammate. The first team to have all four teammates cross the finish line wins. It is exciting, unpredictable and incredibly entertaining to watch.
Adding to the excitement, the Mixed Team Relay format was recently announced as the newest addition to the Olympic medal events in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This will be the first professional Mixed Team Relay event held in the USA since the announcement. MLT will have some of the top professional athletes in the world racing including Olympians and World Champions. All of the action will take place in Nottingham Park in Avon within a 1-mile radius. The race begins at 3:00 p.m. Come cheer on Avon’s own pro team, the Colorado Peaks, including local pro, John O’Neil who grew up right down the road from Nottingham Park.
In conjunction with the race, MLT is hosting an all day festival in Nottingham Park that includes beer and wine gardens, food vendors, a vendor expo, game zones, a Strider bike adventure zone for kids and much more. The festival opens at 12:00 p.m. with a free family fun run through the park and the music festivities will go on all day beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a performance by the Tenth Mountain Division band.
The Drunken Hearts, which have been described, as “an electric force of Americana music” will perform as the opening act for Head for the Hills after the MLT pro race. The Colorado based group has managed to make a great name for itself in a state that is known for producing and evaluating world-class music. The band fearlessly bottles a tempestuous, yet honest brand of American music-infusing spirited vocals with electric and acoustic instruments, and crafting thoughtful songs that are resonating with crowds everywhere. Admission to the festival and race is complimentary all day. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
