Free Cardboard Boat Regatta Will Test Seaworthiness of Cardboard Craft on Nottingham Lake this Saturday

Awards will be presented for fastest boat, most creative design, most dramatic sinking, and crowd favorite during the inaugural regatta

Avon, CO – What floats your boat? Corrugated cardboard, duct tape, caulk and glue are on the list of suggested supplies for the Avon Recreation Center’s inaugural Cardboard Boat Regatta, which takes place this Saturday, August 12th. The free event is open to children and adults, and successful competitors will navigate their cardboard craft across Nottingham Lake as quickly as possible. Boats will race in heats based on the age of the crew and the length of the boat. Judges will determine winners in the categories of Fastest Boat, Most Creative Design, Most Dramatic Sinking, and Crowd Favorite.

Registration for the free event begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a parade of boats at 11:00 a.m., and the races begin at noon. Pre-registration and an activity waiver are required, and a complete list of guidelines, suggested supplies, restricted materials, and construction tips are available at www.avonrec.org/cardboard. Cardboard is available for pickup at the Avon Recreation Center through Friday, August 11th.
