Missoula Children’s Theatre Arrives in Avon on Monday

Program will stage two free performances at Avon Performance Pavilion

Avon, CO – The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, is coming to Avon to stage an original, full-scale musical production with local cast members in grades K – 12. This weekend, a tour team will arrive in Avon with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast.

Auditions will begin on Monday, June 12th to cast 50-60 local students to perform The Tortoise Versus the Hare at the Avon Performance Pavilion. Among the roles to be cast are the wise Tortoise- Coach Shelley Bowlback, the conceited Curly Hare, Esther and her daughter Little Bonnie Bunny, the rascally Weasels, the singing service station Ferrets and the scaly Reptiles. Other roles include the Thespian Troupe, Curly’s Posse, the TV Crew and the rowdy Curly Hare Fan Club. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

Rehearsals are scheduled throughout the week in two-hour intervals between10:00 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., and performances scheduled for Friday, June 16th at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 17th at 3:00 p.m. Participating children will also enjoy three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Directors scheduled throughout the week. All students must be registered to audition, and registration for this free program is available on a first-come, first-serve basis through the Avon Recreation Center.

The free weekend performances starring area youth are sure to be smashingly entertaining.
