Residents and Guests are invited to Tickle the Ivories on Avon’s first Pianos on Parade Installation

Avon, CO – Know a little “Chopsticks” or maybe some “Heart and Soul?” A colorfully painted piano has been placed between the Avon Library and the Avon Recreation Center, west of the Main Street Mall for the public to enjoy. The instrument is owned by the Town of Avon and is part of the Pianos on Parade program, which places pianos painted by local children and artists in various outdoor locations for everyone to play and enjoy during the summer.

Students at Avon Elementary School painted the piano and bench, and the design is undoubtedly Colorado. Adorned with mountains, chairlifts, Aspen trees, and the Colorado state flag, the upright piano is a colorful art installation at the top of the Main Street Mall, just waiting for someone to tickle the ivories. There is a cover to protect the piano from wet weather, and Avon Recreation Center staff will help manage the care of the piano.
 
“I think children and adults in the Town will love this piano and appreciate that it’s here to be played,” said Avon Town Councilor Amy Phillips. “The students at Avon Elementary have already been a part of painting the piano, and now we hope they will see their art work out in the community, and want to play a little tune.”
 
Mayor Jennie Fancher introduced the Pianos on Parade program. The project is funded by Keys 4/4 Kids, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that strives to initiate transformation in the lives of children, donors, and community through the production and exploration of art and music. Keys 4/4 Kids accepts donations of used and unwanted pianos and its professional piano technicians rejuvenate them for resale.
 
The piano will be located at the Recreation Center/Avon Library outdoor alcove all summer.
