Avon Cleanup Week Culminates with Town Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 13th

Avon, CO – The Town of Avon Cleanup Week for Avon residents will begin Monday, May 8 and continue through Saturday, May 13. If you have unwanted materials including large items such as washers, dryers or furniture, now is the time to throw them away. Best of all, removal is free. Avon residents can contact the Public Works Department at (970)748-4105 to schedule a pickup. A Public Works crew will come to your home to pick up the materials between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. All items must be placed curbside. The staff will take your materials, free of charge, to the dump.

The Public Works Department will take almost anything, including yard waste. Exceptions include tires, construction trash and hazardous and toxic waste items such as paints, motor oil, batteries and electronics. Residents may take their old electronic equipment or components (e-waste) to the Eagle County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Wolcott located by the landfill. Refrigerators and freezers will not be collected, but individuals can take these items to the Eagle County Landfill for recycling as long as the Freon has been removed.

On Saturday, May 13, the Town will hold the second annual Town Clean-Up Day event, giving volunteers a chance to clean up Avon after a long winter season. Volunteer registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Avon Performance Pavilion, located at Harry A. Nottingham Park. Residents can register in advance by emailing pneill@avon.org. The clean-up will take place between 9 and 11 a.m., after which volunteers will head back to the Pavilion’s event terrace for a free lunch with entertainment by a live DJ.

Be sure to mark your calendars and come out to celebrate the changing seasons with a little spring cleaning! A special thanks to Vail Valley Salvation Army, who will be providing lunch after the clean-up event, and Vail Honeywagon, who will be donating two dumpsters to accommodate the extra yard waste and disposed materials during Cleanup Week. For more information on Avon’s Cleanup Week, please contact Avon’s Public Works Department at (970)748-4105.
