For Immediate Release | March 30, 2017 Contact: Preston Neill, Executive Assistant to the Town Manager 970-748-4404 | pneill@avon.org Report from the March 28th Avon Town Council Meeting Avon, CO – The Avon Town Council held a regular meeting on March 28th. Highlights of the meeting include the following: - Restroom Upgrade: Council authorized issuance of the Notice of Award for the Nottingham Park Restroom Remodel Project contract to Hess Contracting, Inc., in the amount of $303,517. The project will update the restrooms, which were constructed in 1983, by replacing the exterior siding, changing the roof design to match the pavilion, updating the fixtures, and adjusting the stalls to be ADA complaint. A picnic shelter will be added to the west side of the building overlooking the new playground. Construction will be completed by the peak summer season of 2017.
- 100% Renewable Energy Target Set: Town Staff presented an Implementation Schedule for programs and projects from the Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community and the Council’s adopted Strategic Plan. Items related to transportation and mobility, commercial buildings, residential buildings and waste reduction are outlined in the Schedule, with most actions to reduce GHG programmed for implementation in the next one to three years.
The Implementation Schedule also targets that the Town of Avon’s electricity demand will be provided with 100% renewable energy by 2030. The Implementation Schedule was unanimously approved as presented. Council asked for a bid to be solicited for an emissions monitoring program from CLEER Colorado Building Energy Navigator, and for the nonprofit to present the program at a Council meeting.
- Council Outreach to the Avon Community: In May, 2016, the Town Council adopted the Town of Avon Marketing Plan. Since one of the recommended priorities in the Plan is to “Get Town Council Out and About,” Council discussed ways to further engage residents in order for more residents to understand the programs, projects and initiatives the Town has undertaken. Suggestions by Council members included setting up a Council-manned booth at City Market and hosting a Coffee Chat after Yoga on the Pavilion. Direction was given to staff to develop a schedule for “Coffee with Council” and offer it to Council members to get things started.
