Avon Recreation Department Launches 2017 Summer Camp Registration

Missoula Children’s Theatre will come to Avon in June

Avon, CO – The Town of Avon has several distinct offerings for children this summer, including a unique, week-long opportunity to join the Missoula Children’s Theatre. The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan. On June 12th, MCT will arrive in Avon with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast.

Local students in grades K-12 can register to participate in the cast, and the show is rehearsed throughout the week, with two public performances scheduled for Friday, June 16th and Saturday, June 17th. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. This year, MCT will present The Tortoise Versus the Hare, and they are looking for 50-60 local students to participate in the cast. This program is funded by the Town of Avon, participation is free, and students are required to bring their own lunch each day.

Additionally, the Avon Recreation Department is once again offering a fun-filled day camp for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade, beginning May 30th. The Town’s camps are dedicated to providing a safe, active and exciting recreational experience for children. Day Camp is open to students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, offering field trips on Tuesdays. The rest of the week is filled with group games, crafts, special library activities, and lots of outdoor time. The cost for Day Camp is $33 per child per day.

Adventure Camp is geared towards students entering 3rd through 6th grade. New this year, children enrolled in Adventure Camp will participate in two field trips each week, on Mondays and Thursdays. Field trips include zip-lining in Glenwood Springs, sailing on Lake Dillon, rock climbing and more! The remainder of the week will include games, crafts, hikes and outdoor time. The cost for Adventure Camp is $42 per day per child.

To participate in Day Camp or Adventure Camp, children must have a completed a Youth Activity Waiver or Waiver Transfer Authorization, a general health appraisal completed by a physician, and immunization records on file. Both camps are licensed through the State of Colorado Division of Child Care and adhere to established guidelines for counselor-child ratios (13 children per counselor), curriculum, nutrition and staff qualifications.

Registration for Missoula Children’s Theatre, Day Camp and Adventure Camp begins Monday, April 3rd. Parents can register children for summer camp online or in person at the Avon Recreation Center, 90 Lake Street.
