The Grammy® Award-Winning National Children’s Chorus Comes to Avon Thursday, August 11th
The National Children’s Chorus presents “Odyssey: A Youth Opera”
Avon, CO – The National Children’s Chorus will present “Odyssey: A Youth Opera” at the Avon Performance Pavilion in Harry A. Nottingham Park on Thursday, August 11th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to attend this performance, which is free and open to the public!
This original adventure story, based on Homer's "The Odyssey", is presented in a new youthful musical setting that returns the epic to its roots as a tale meant for song. Odysseus faces storms, shipwrecks, monsters, and the gods themselves on his journey from war and back home to his family. Audience members will experience the phenomenal voices of some of the country’s most talented young singers as they begin a new artistic journey in the epic world of opera.
Students of the National Children's Chorus come from all over the nation to attend the newly launched annual Opera Camp in Vail, Colo. After developing their vocal talent during the school year through ensemble training and musicianship courses, they spend ten days in Vail studying acting, opera history, and on-stage performance techniques, to culminate in a stunning opera production of Ben Moore and Kelly Rourke’s “Odyssey”.
The production is directed by NCC alumnus and GRAMMY® Award nominee Johnathan McCullough, music direction by GRAMMY® Award winner Luke McEndarfer (NCC Artistic Director & CEO) and conducted by Dr. Kristen Simpson.
