Galactic Featuring Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph to Headline Salute to the USA on July 3 in Avon
Avon, CO – The 36th annual Salute to the USA on Sunday, July 3 in Harry A. Nottingham Park announces headliner Galactic featuring Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph with Cory Wong opening the performance. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. for the annual Independence Day celebration with live music beginning at 6:00 p.m.
History doesn’t stand still. It impacts, influences, and inspires the ebb and flow of the future by informing the present. Galactic draw on 25 years together to progress with each performance and subsequent record. After 10 albums, over 2,000 gigs, and tens of millions of streams, the proud New Orleans, LA quintet—Ben Ellman [saxophone, harmonica], Robert Mercurio [bass], Stanton Moore [drums, percussion], Jeffrey Raines [guitar], and Richard Vogal [keyboards]—have kept the torch burning through five U.S. presidential regimes, the turn-of-the-century, Hurricane Katrina, a global pandemic, and a much-anticipated recovery. They’re the rare collective who can support Juvenile on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, contribute music to a blockbuster soundtrack such as Now You See Me, and light up the stages of Coachella, Bonnaroo, and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (a staggering 22 times).
Joined by vocal powerhouse Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, they continue to forge ahead with a 2022 headline tour and more new music.
“We’ve just achieved 25 years as a band of brothers, so we know how to work with each other and move ourselves through the next 25 years,” Robert leaves off. “We’re always trying to push ourselves with our songwriting and studio collaborations. I look forward to where the future will take us.”
If you aren’t familiar, Cory Wong is a Grammy nominated guitarist, producer, and composer who has been touring worldwide to sold out shows. He’s also a member of Vulfpeck & Fearless Flyers. Cory started joining Jon Batiste's band on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, then moved to a special guest performer. He is a host of his own Podcast called Wong Notes (Cory Wong X Premier Guitar). In 2021, Cory opened the year up by introducing his biggest project to date, Cory and the Wongnotes. The show is a true reflection of his amazing vision & passion for music, comedy, and high-end content. His trajectory and buzz is cultivated from a diverse demographic that supports and interacts with his brand. It’s clean, fresh, and perfectly timed. In July of this year, The Cory Wong Signature Fender Stratocaster became available in stores worldwide.
Cory is moving more and more into becoming a household name by selling shows out at Madison Square Garden, gracing the cover of magazines, dropping signature equipment for musicians out there, and launching unique opportunities like the Cory Wong Scholarship with WaterBear in the UK (Full Bachelor’s degree) or his the more recent addition of 4th Position Academy. Musically, the landscape is as interesting as ever. He can be seen in the pop lane being covered by Billboard or the opposite side of the spectrum performing with a 60-piece orchestra.
Touring includes SOLD OUT WORLD TOURS. 2022 starts out with a tour in the US and then a spring Europe tour including a stop at the Troxy in London (3,000 cap). Cory’s live show is one of the most high-energy put together events that you can find. A majority of his band members are Prince Alumni which accents the Minneapolis forward funk sound. His personality comes through and resonates with the crowd, which is why brand-new markets show up. There is a rising demand and it’s growing in the right direction, worldwide.
“Salute to the USA is Avon’s most anticipated event of the year. We are honored to host Galactic featuring Anjelika Jelly Joseph with Cory Wong and the entire community,” said Avon Culture, Arts and Special Events Manager Danita Dempsey. “Come one, come all to enjoy the tradition of this celebration with award-winning musicians, family fun zone, festival-style foods and refreshing beverages at the Hahnewald bar, followed by a breath-taking laser show!”
