Avon Town Council Adopts Indoor Face Covering Requirement
Avon, CO - The Avon Town Council adopted Emergency Ordinance No. 20-08 at a special meeting on June 30, 2020 which establishes requirements for indoor face coverings. The indoor face covering requirement is effective immediately. The ordinance requires all persons to wear face coverings when entering and while inside areas of a business open to the public. Exceptions to the requirement to wear a face covering indoors include (1) pre-existing individual health conditions, (2) persons under two years of age, (3) when seated for dining or consumption at a restaurant or bar, when receiving personal or health services that require access to mouth or nose, (4) when exercising at a gym or fitness center, and (5) during indoor meetings not open to the general public when social distancing of 6’ can be maintained.
The Town of Avon is printing signs for business entrances that state that face coverings are required indoors. The Avon Town Council recognized that coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in Eagle County have been low, but also recognized that a significant influx of visitors is expected for July and August and that nearly all other mountain resort communities in Colorado have adopted face covering requirements. The intent is to support businesses in requiring uniform and consistent usage of face coverings indoors. Businesses may contact Town Manager Eric Heil at townmanager@avon.org or at 970.748.4004 with any questions.
