Avon, Co - BecTri, a sprint-distance duathlon, will be held on August 3rd, 2013 in Harry A. Nottingham Park. The BecTri starts at 8:00 a.m. with a 5K run along the Eagle River recreational path followed by an out and back 15k bike ride to Edwards’ Singletree neighborhood finishing with a 3K run to the finish line. The duathlon is held in memory of Rebecca Lynn Yarberry, a local triathlete and friend who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2007. Becky had a generous heart, a loving spirit, and a passion for triathlons. This race supports the charitable causes Becky was passionate about, and honors her spirit by fostering a race environment that is encouraging to everyone, regardless of skill level. Two non-profit organizations, Vail Valley Charitable Fund and CURE International, are the beneficiaries of race proceeds.
The 5K run course follows the recreational path along the south side of Nottingham Lake connecting with the scenic Eagle River Recreational Path for an out and back run course. The bike leg heads west from Avon through Edward’s Singletree neighborhood, returning to Avon via Hwy 6. The 3K walk/run leaves Nottingham Park via Lake Street and follows Riverfront Lane to the Eagle River Recreational Path and back to the finish line in Nottingham Park. Spectator, volunteer and athlete parking are located in the Bear Lot along Highway 6.
