Avon, CO – If you have participated in the free blood screenings at the Avon Recreation Center (ARC) through their monthly free blood screenings…then we want to see you again! This Wednesday, May 15 and Monday, May 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the Community Health Advocate will be on-site offering to re-test your blood at the ARC. “We are committed to helping Eagle County improve upon their cardiovascular health,” said Claudia Hilty, Certified Community Health Advocate at Vail Valley Medical Center.

This Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program has been a part of Eagle County for the last five years. It has been a government grant that was given to VVMC from Denver Health and Colorado Prevention Program.

Individual consultation will take approximately 20 minutes and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water the day before and fasting 10-12 hours prior to the screening will provide more accurate results.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is caused by risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, life expectancy could be increased by seven years if all forms of cardiovascular disease were eliminated.
