Avon, CO - Nearly half of the child injury-related deaths occur between the months of May and August, when kids have an abundant time. In an effort to help kids stay safe, Eagle County Emergency Services offers Camp 911. These FREE one-day camps for kid’s age nine to eleven focuses on developing kid’s decision-making skills and actions when facing an emergency.

Camp 911 teaches kids valuable lessons using fun, camp-style activities. Participants will have a basic knowledge of water safety and rescue; first aid; traffic and fire safety; and self-defense. Paramedics and EMT’s will teach the campers basic First Aid and CPR, using scenarios as well as hands on experience with medical equipment, and a tour of the ambulance. Fire fighters teach kids how to use a fire extinguisher as well as the opportunity to experience the “smoke house,” a simulation of a burning house that teaches them how to get to safety. Law enforcement personnel will teach kids basic self-defense and bike safety, as well as utilize the employing the “seat belt convincer” to demonstrate the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
Camp 911 takes place on Wednesday, July 11th at Avon Elementary School.
