Avon, CO - If you’re looking for a great way to prepare for open water triathlon’s or duathlon’s, then Avon’s Dunk-N-Dash series is for you! Dunk-N-Dash is a five event swim/run series which starts on Monday, July 9th at 6:00 p.m. and runs every Monday evening through August 6th. The Dunk-N-Dash series is a fantastic use of the natural resources available in Harry A. Nottingham Park and is the only place to swim in open-water in Eagle County.
This year’s participants will have a chance to win up to $750 cash by competing in all five events. Or, participants can participate in at least three races and be entered into the Points Series for a chance to win $100 cash.
Individual registration for the entire series is only $62 and will get you a performance training shirt! Pre-registration for the series is open until 5:00 p.m. July 8th.
Individual race pre-registration is available for $15 until 5:00 p.m. the day before each race at www.active.com or you can register at the Avon Recreation Center until 7:00 p.m. Race day registration is available for $20 at the Avon Recreation Center until 3:00 p.m. or at 5:00 p.m. at the blue Town of Avon tent located by Nottingham Lake (cash only).
The swim will be approximately 870 yards (1/2 mile) or 1740 yards (1 mile) in Nottingham Lake. Swimmers should be prepared for water temperatures between 65-74 degrees. The 5K run starts and finishes at the Lake’s pump-house. The running course runs north around Nottingham Lake, follows the path to Avon Elementary, and turns onto the scenic river recreation path. At “Bob the Bridge,” runners turn around and return on the same path, detouring to the south side of the Lake for the finish line.
Post-race snacks will be available for participants, family, and friends beginning at 7:00 p.m. near the finish at Nottingham Park. All cash prizes will be awarded at the last Dunk-n-Dash event on August, 6th.
In case of a lightning storm, a race may be cancelled or postponed to the following week. Please call Avon Recreation Center 970-748-4060 to confirm date and time should a race need to be rescheduled. Wet suits and swim caps are recommended.
