Click it or Ticket Campaign Through June 3

Avon, Co—The Avon Police Department will join in the nationwide May “Click it or Ticket” campaign, May 21 through June 3, 2011.
Colorado law requires all drivers and front seat passengers to wear seat belts. The minimum fine is $65 per violation. The driver is also responsible for properly restraining young passengers in the front and back seats. The minimum fine for violating the state's child passenger safety law is $82.
We wish to remind everyone to buckle-up; it only takes three seconds. Taking the time to do so can save your life as approximately 85 percent of traffic fatalities occur within 5 miles of home. If involved in a collision, an airbag will only protect you if you remain in the vehicle. Most people who do not buckle up are killed because they are ejected. Wearing a seat belt will significantly increase your chances of survival, and airbags provide supplemental protection.
Funding for the May “Click it or Ticket” Campaign has been provided through a federal grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). During this campaign a strict “no warning” policy has been issued by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Office of Traffic Safety—ALL seat belt violators will receive a citation.
Please buckle-up, drive safe, and if you choose to drink, don’t drive.

Please contact Officer Yvonne Ramirez with the Avon Police Department at 970-748-4040 with questions.
