Sixteen Residents Graduate from the Avon Citizens Police Academy

Avon, CO—On November 7, 2011, sixteen community residents graduate from the 3rd Annual Avon Citizens Police Academy. The six week course reviewed the State of the Police Department and provided instruction in crime scene investigations, verbal judo, DUI Detention/Enforcement; Special Weapons and tactics (SWAT) Operations, Eagle county Jail Operations, and Self Defense. Additionally, students had the opportunity to test their skills on the Firearms Simulator while learning to evaluate shoot/don’t shoot situations. The final day of instruction consisted of firearms instruction at the range.

Graduates of the 2011 Academy Class were: Rachel Van Sloun, Dr. Hannah Jarvis, Melissa Lovan, Sayer Houseal, Rebecca Rice, Ronald Delp, Andrew Strehler, Tom Snyder, Randall Horton, David Scherpf, Lee Smith, Martha McBride, Ralph Brodin, Robert Higgins, Armando Rodriguez, Brad Stamp, and Jon Sheppard.

“I am very proud of this diverse group of community residents who have taken time out of their busy schedules to learn, give back, and support our town through community policing,” said Avon Police Chief, Robert Ticer. “The Avon Police Department’s Mission Statement is ‘Make a Difference,’ and I believe these sixteen fine community members have and will continue to make a positive difference in our neighborhoods through their partnership with the Police Department”
