Sixteen Residents Graduate from the Avon Citizens Police Academy
Avon, CO—On November 7, 2011, sixteen community residents graduate from the 3rd Annual Avon Citizens Police Academy. During the course of instruction, attendees received hands-on, practical training in core functions of community policing. The six week course reviewed the State of the Police Department and provided instruction in crime scene investigations, verbal judo, DUI Detention/Enforcement; Special Weapons and tactics (SWAT) Operations, Eagle county Jail Operations, and Self Defense. Additionally, students had the opportunity to test their skills on the Firearms Simulator while learning to evaluate shoot/don’t shoot situations. The final day of instruction consisted of firearms instruction at the range.
Graduates of the 2011 Academy Class were: Rachel Van Sloun, Dr. Hannah Jarvis, Melissa Lovan, Sayer Houseal, Rebecca Rice, Ronald Delp, Andrew Strehler, Tom Snyder, Randall Horton, David Scherpf, Lee Smith, Martha McBride, Ralph Brodin, Robert Higgins, Armando Rodriguez, Brad Stamp, and Jon Sheppard.
