Property Manager Arrested

Avon, CO—On October 25, 2011, Avon Police Department arrested Eric Whitney on felony theft charges, stemming from a yearlong criminal investigation. In December of 2010 Sunny Side at Avon homeowner’s association began reviewing their account after taking control back from their property manager. Eric Whitney had been in charge of the homeowner’s bank account until 2010.

The HOA immediately notified Avon Police of suspicious activity on their account and detectives began investigating. Through their investigation, it was apparent that the manager had been using the business account for his personal use.

After receiving full bank records, detectives used a forensic accountant and discovered that from 2005 to 2010 there were significant unexplained expenses. Based on these findings, Detective Holmstrom filed for an arrest warrant for Eric Whitney.

To avoid similar situations, Detective Holmstrom would like to remind all homeowner’s associations to periodically review their finances and business accounts, especially if you utilize an outside management company.
