Vail Officers & DUI Task Force Recognized At MADD Awards
(Vail) – Two Vail Police Officers and the DUI Gore Range Task Force were recognized for their outstanding dedication during the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner and Awards Ceremony held in Denver on Sept. 14.
Officer Craig Westering was awarded for “Outstanding Dedication to Minor in Possession and Minor in Consumption Enforcement” in the mountain division category. Westering made 17 arrests for those offenses between June 2010 and May 2011. He has been a Vail police officer since 2006 and previously served as a code enforcement officer for the town.
Also receiving recognition was Officer Dan Torgerson who received an honorable mention in the mountain division category for his arrests for Driving Under the Influence. He joined the department in 2002.
In addition, Eagle County’s DUI Gore Range Task Force took home the award for “Outstanding Team Dedication to DUI Enforcement” in the mountain division category for making 174 DUI arrests between June 2010 and May 2011. The Task Force is comprised of officers from Colorado State Patrol, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Avon, Eagle, Minturn and Vail Police departments.
Colorado Attorney General John Suthers was the keynote speaker for the evening.
Vail Police Chief Dwight Henninger says the department extends its appreciation to MADD and all law enforcement organizations recognized for their efforts.
