Third Annual IronKids® Avon Just Days Away

IronKids National Triathlon Series will hold its twenty-first event of the 2011 season in Avon, CO., on September 3rd and 4th, drawing youth ranging from 6 to 15 years of age.

IronKids Avon, taking place on Sunday, September 4th at Harry A. Nottingham Park, will include five divisions: Ages 6-8, Ages 9-11, Ages 12-15, Military and Teams. Those in the Military and Teams divisions will begin the race according to the age group they fall within. Participants ages 12-15 will begin at 7 a.m. with a pool swim at Avon Recreation Center. Athletes will then utilize closed roads and run on paved walkways along Nottingham Lake and Park. Ages 9-11 and ages 6-8 will follow the same schedule. All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group plus the top five finishers in each age group will qualify for the Hy-Vee IronKids U. S. Championship presented by Dole on September 17 in West Des Moines, IA

In addition to the races, the series offers an interactive weekend experience for the entire family. The IronKids Expo, which is open to the public, will be kicked-off on Saturday morning with a free community pancake breakfast starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 10:15 a.m. followed by a free youth yoga class. The IronKids Expo will continue into the afternoon on Sunday featuring product sampling, retail, nutrition, and triathlon clinics.

Distances for the IronKids Avon will vary, depending on the age of participants:
- Ages 6 to 8: 50-yard swim, 2-mile bike and 500-yard run
- Ages 9 to 11: 150-yard swim, 4-mile bike and 1-mile run
- Ages 12 to 15: 300-yard swim, 8-mile bike and 2-mile run

IronKids Avon is sponsored by the Town of Avon, the Vail Valley Partnership, The Parent’s Handbook, Vail Valley Medical Center, TV8, NRC Broadcasting, Holy Cross Energy, KZYR The Zephyr, Eagle County, Vail Daily and The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, who will offer IronKids discounts to participating families.
