Avon Police Credit the EC Alert System with Finding Missing Man
On July 13th, 2011, the Avon Police Department received a report of a missing 74-year old man who became separated from his wife during a bicycle ride in Avon. Officers received information that the man may have become disorientated and lost. A Police Supervisor set up incident command and coordinated a response of public safety personnel to search between Edwards and Vail. During the incident, Vail Dispatch utilized the EC Alert System and provided the public with a description of the missing man. Shortly thereafter, two citizens noticed the gentleman sitting next to his bicycle near the Water Sanitation Plant in Avon and dialed 911. Officers responded and were able to successfully reunite the missing man with his family.

Thankfully no injuries were reported. I encourage each resident of Eagle County to sign up for EC Alert. The eyes and ears of the public are a vital link to Public Safety.” Robert L.
