[ARCHIVED] Stand Up Paddle Boarding Comes to Harry A. Nottingham Park & Lake

Every Wednesday, June 29th through August 10th Alpine Quest Sports will be hosting Stand Up Paddle, or SUP, demos on Avon’s Nottingham Lake from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for only $10 per half-hour. If you want to learn more about this new sport bring a swimsuit and your best balance. “It’s a sport that just about anyone can do,” said Sean Glackin, Alpine Quest Sports/ Alpine Kayak School owner. “It’s a fun challenge, great workout and perfect way to spend the afternoon on the water.”

SUP has long been accepted in the ocean crowds and has only recently found its way to the mountains. “It’s a new activity and sport that is really gaining momentum,” Glackin said. “You can take the board out for a mellow paddle around the lake or try your hand at the rivers – it’s all very new, fun and exciting.”

The weekly demo through Alpine Quest Sports and sponsored by the Town of Avon is a great way to introduce just about anyone to the sport with the help of qualified instructors in a mellow lake setting. If you are already keen on riding the new wave of water activity and want to try out some new boards, Alpine Quest Sports has a variety of SUP boards ranging from inflatable to foam and down-river stable boards to high-performance agile boards. The demo is every Wednesday at Nottingham Lake from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information contact Alpine Quest Sports at 970.926.3867
