Avon Seeking Input on Funding Transit Service
Avon, CO—The Avon Town Council would like to hear from the community on the issue of transportation and the possibility of creating a permanent, dedicated funding source for transit at the next Town Council Work Session to be held Tuesday, March 22; the transit discussion will begin at 3:45 p.m.
Tim Baker from Beaver Creek Resort Company recently asked the Town Council to reinstate funding for a shuttle service from Avon to the Covered Bridge in Beaver Creek Village. In previous years Avon and Beaver Creek split the cost of funding a shuttle, but funding from Avon has been reduced due to the Town’s fiscal constraints and due to contributions to the Riverfront gondola which began in 2007. Mr. Baker’s request prompted a larger discussion of the need to create a permanent funding source for Avon transit, and a request by Council to review possible funding options other than last year’s Connect Avon Now (CAN) proposal.
During the Work Session on March 22, staff will present an overview the deferred Connect Avon Now project, a synopsis of lessons learned from the initiative, outline general transit cost and transit use information, and provide options for permanent funding solutions.
Members of the community wishing to voice their opinion about transportation in Avon are encouraged to attend the Work Session on March 22th. For more information, please contact Jaime Walker, Community Relations Officer at 970-748-4087.
