[ARCHIVED] Snow Ball Music Festival - Impact Notice Update

Avon, CO - Combining the world’s best musicians with the world's best snow conditions, the inaugural 2011 Snow Ball Music Festival is a one-of-a-kind music experience that proposes the ultimate marriage: music and mountains. With three stages of world class bands and dj’s, the music at this year's Snow Ball is sure to satisfy thousands of hungry music fans, and skiers/snowboarders will find the ultimate adventure at Vail and Beaver Creek Resorts.


Harry A. Nottingham Park in Avon, Colorado will be the hottest ticket in town March 4th through March 6th with music festival ticket sales on target to attract 10,000 people per day. With this many guests in town, the community is gearing up for extra traffic on the roads, busy restaurants and full lodges. The town is committed to provide the surrounding property owners, businesses and residents with the most up-to-date information on road closures, transportation/parking details and business/service impacts.

Road Closures:
Lake Street will be closed at the south end near the fire station to the north parking lot of the Avon Recreation Center starting at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3rd to Tuesday, March 8th between 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (weather depending).

Parking/Drop Off for Festival Patrons:
Parking for all festival patrons will be located at the Traer Creek property (rodeo lots) located on E. Beaver Creek Blvd. and will open at 12:00 p.m. each day. Parking is available in this lot for $10 per day.

Parking on Avon streets/roads or private property is illegal and subject to being ticketed or towed.

Non-parking festival patrons arriving via private vehicle or over-the-road charters will be directed to Avon Elementary School for passenger drop-off and pick-up between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4th and between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th and Sunday, March 6th.

Non-parking festival patrons arriving via private vehicle or over-the-road charter arriving between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4th only will be dropped off on W. Beaver Creek Blvd. at the bus stop located near the Sheraton Mountain Vista. After 6:00 p.m. this drop off and pick up location will be moved to Avon Elementary School.

Traffic:
All festival traffic is being directed to utilize exit 168 (Wal-Mart) off I-70 to Post Blvd. Festival patrons needing to park will be directed to E. Beaver Creek Blvd. and the Traer Creek parking lots (rodeo lots).

Non-parking festival patrons will be directed to utilize Post Blvd south bound to Highway 6 west bound to West Beaver Creek Blvd. north bound to the drop location of Avon Elementary School. After passenger drop traffic will be directed to turn around and exit via south bound West Beaver Creek Blvd. to Highway 6.

The Town of Avon in conjunction with the event promoter is specifically trying to keep vehicular traffic on Avon Road to a minimum to allow for the normal use of round about vehicular traffic.

Transit Services:
Avon Transit will provide “special” bus service to/from the Traer Creek parking lots (rodeo lots) to the Avon Transit Station in approx. 15-20 minute intervals as follows:

Friday, March 4th: 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 5th: 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 6th: 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Eco Transit will be augmenting their east and west bound service between the hours of 6:45 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. This service will only be available at the Vail Transportation Center and Avon Transit Station.

The Turtle Bus will be providing its normal service between 9:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. between Avon and Vail. Pick-up and dropping at Loaded Joe’s/Finnegan’s Wake in Avon.

Pedestrian Traffic:
Certified traffic flaggers will be placed strategically along E. Beaver Creek Blvd, Chapel Place and Benchmark Road as well as sandwich board signs to assist those festival patrons choosing to walk to the festival venue main entrance.

Two (2) certified traffic flaggers supported by Avon PD will be placed at Avon Road round about number three, four and five to ensure safe pedestrian crossing. This support will be in place for both ingress and egress.

All festival patrons dropped at Avon Elementary School will be directed via sandwich board signs and volunteers to utilize the north recreational path providing direct access to the north festival entrance. This support will be in place for both ingress and egress.

Festival egress will be supported with a joint effort between Avon PD and hired security personnel executing an event venue sweep at the end of each festival day. Additional lighting will also be provided for safe egress.

Avon Recreation Center:
The ARC will be operating with reduced hours Friday, March 4th through Sunday, March 6th. The hours of operation are as follows:

Friday, March 4th: 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 5th: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 6th: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.


Avon Library:
The Avon Library will be closed Friday, March 4th through Sunday, March 6th re-opening for regular business hours Monday, March 7.

Avon Police Chief – Robert Ticer: On behalf of the professional men and women of the Avon Police Department, I would like to welcome you to the first annual Snow Ball Music Festival in Avon, CO. Avon Police Officers, with support from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Police Department, Golden Police Department and the Eagle Police Department will be on hand at the event to ensure a safe environment. We encourage all of you to enjoy the festival and if you need law enforcement assistance please contact any of the uniformed officers. For emergencies, dial 911.

For those attendees parking on the East side of Avon or in the skiing for the day and parking at the Beaver Creek Resort parking lots and walking to the concert, you will find officers available at our round abouts on Avon Road to facilitate your safe crossing. Your safety is paramount and we encourage the use of carpools and designated sober drivers to and from the event. Have a great event and Buckle Up For Safety!
