Wildfire Mitigation in Wildridge
Wildfire mitigation is currently underway above Metcalf Road in Avon in partnership with Eagle Valley Wildland. The project is designed to protect homes and businesses, the primary evacuation route from Wildridge and Wildwood, and ecosystem health.
The patterns on the hill north of Avon are part of what will be a mosaic pattern. The primary objective of a mosaic pattern is to break up fuel continuity and leave cover for animals. This process is done by mulching brush into shreds. The shreds help retain the seed bank and create healthy soils.
The areas in blue on the map below will be treated in 2023. This project is funded by the Town of Avon and Colorado State Forest Service Grants. Eagle Valley Wildland is the project manager of the Wildridge project.
