Avon Recreation Center adjusts Saturday swimming pool operating hours

The Avon Recreation Center, like many other organizations, is feeling the effects of the national labor shortage. Due to staff shortages in the Aquatics Division, the Avon Recreation Center Saturday swimming pool hours will change from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. beginning Saturday, March 5.

Additionally, the Recreation Department will also cancel Saturday morning swim lesson programming. The rest of the facility, including all fitness areas, locker rooms, steam room and sauna will remain open during its normal Saturday operating hours, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Although this change is not ideal, adequate lifeguard and management personnel are essential to safely managing all swimming pools and aquatics programming.

“We are fortunate to have navigated this far into the busy winter season with minimal operational adjustments,” said Director of Recreation, Michael Labagh. The Recreation Department is looking forward to continuing to provide a safe facility with quality staff and programming.

The Recreation Department is hiring for several positions, including Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Swim Team Coaches and Youth Counselors. Prospective staff can expect quality training, competitive pay and a free monthly membership to the Avon Recreation Center.  If interested in working for the Town of Avon, a list of job openings and an employment application can be found at
