Avon Town Clean-Up Day Returns on Friday, June 14th

Town Staff to meet volunteers around Avon with trash bags, reflective vests and food and drink vouchers

Avon, CO – Be sure to mark your calendars and come out to celebrate the changing seasons with a little spring cleaning! On Friday, June 14, the Town of Avon will hold the fourth annual Town Clean-Up Day event, giving volunteers a chance to clean up Avon after a long winter season. The Town will be divided into ten sections, with members of Town Staff captaining each section beginning at 5:30 p.m. Staff will provide volunteers with trash bags, reflective vests and a voucher for free tacos and beer on the Avon Performance Pavilion following the event. Volunteers can report directly to the designated meet up locations listed below or meet at the Avon Performance Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. to be assigned and shuttled to a location.

Volunteers will be able to set full trash bags curbside, as Avon Public Works staff will make periodic loops around Town to retrieve and dispose of the filled bags. At 7:00 p.m., all volunteers will head back to the Pavilion Event Terrace for free beers, tacos and entertainment.

The ten sections and the meet-up location on the day of the event are as follows:

Section 1: Nottingham Park | Meet at Avon Performance Pavilion Stage
Section 2: Town Core | Meet at Avon Town Hall (100 Mikaela Way)
Section 3: West Beaver Creek Boulevard | Meet at Lot 16 (Beach Parking Lot)
Section 4: Hurd Lane/Eaglebend | Meet at Hurd Lane Starbucks (25 Hurd Lane)

Section 10: Wildridge/Wildwood | Meet at Wildridge Fire Station (2120 Saddle Ridge Loop)

In addition to Thursday’s event, Clean Up Week will take place from May 20 through May 24. Disposal of qualified items is free, as the Town sponsors this service to its residents. New this year, the Town will pick up yard waste and debris in an effort to help with fire preparedness. To initiate a pick-up, call Avon Public Works at (970) 748-4100 and leave a message with the item(s) requiring disposal and requested pick up date, and place the items curbside. Qualifying items include: most used appliances, furniture, yard waste, regular garbage, and other items routinely accepted at the landfill. Public Works will collect these items between the hours of 8 a.m.  and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Please note that some items do not qualify for this program, including tires, construction debris, hazardous and toxic waste (e.g., paints, motor oil, batteries, etc.), fluorescent light bulbs, refrigerators and freezers. Contact Eagle County (970) 328-3470 for appropriate disposal methods of these items.

A special thanks to Vail Brewing Company and Rocky Mountain Taco, who will be providing food and drink after the clean-up event, and Home Depot, who donated supplies, and Vail Honeywagon, who donated two dumpsters for extra trash.
