Avon, CO – Carving through the heartland of American cycling, the Mavic Haute Route Rockies, will be in Avon June 25th, 26th and 27th. The Haute Route is a global series of stage races for amateurs. Whether it is in the Colorado Rockies, French Alps, Pyrenees or Italian Dolomites, these are the highest, toughest and most prestigious amateur cycling events in the world. Colorado is proud to host the inaugural seven-stage race featuring an unforgettable combination of jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking climbs, offering committed amateur riders the opportunity to compete with a professional level of unprecedented in US amateur cycling.
JUNE 25TH: Avon will welcome riders June 25th as they complete a 95-mile ride from Winter Park, winding from Wolcott east through Edwards and Avon, finishing in Harry A. Nottingham Park.
JUNE 26TH: On Tuesday, June 26th, the Individual Time Trial will begin, with athletes starting at the intersection of East Beaver Creek Boulevard and Beaver Creek Place in timed intervals beginning at 9:00 a.m. East Beaver Creek Boulevard will be closed between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26th. After a rolling first four miles, riders will turn onto Buck Creek Road and climb up to Mountain Star before heading west to the finish at the top of Wildridge. Traffic control will be in place.
The fun continues at 5:30 p.m. on the Avon Performance Pavilion Event Terrace with a free Pop Up Strings Concert by the Ajax Quartet. The Ajax Quartet is an emerging string quartet comprised of violinists and a cellist, and they have performed at various institutions and events throughout the United States. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
JUNE 27TH: All Haute Route riders will depart Avon at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27th. They will head east on US Highway 6 towards Minturn.
Transit and Traffic Impact – June 25-27
Lake Street will be closed from Monday, June 25th through Wednesday, June 27th from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Avon Transit Impact
All Avon Transit routes will run off schedule, and riders should expect delays.
Lake Street bus stop will be closed for the event. Please use the temporary Rec Center bus stop located on Mikaela Way.
The Walmart bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the east side of Fawcett Road on Tuesday, June 26th.
ECO Transit Impact
ECO Transit will also utilize the bus stop on the east side of Fawcett Road at Walmart. Buses may be delayed due to traffic.
