Avon,CO – The Avon Police Department will be hosting a Coffee with a Cop at Starbucks, 25 Hurd Lane, on Monday, May 29th from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Avon.
The majority of contact law enforcement officers have with the public tends tooccur during emergencies or emotional situations, which are often not the mostconducive for relationship building with the community. Additionally, somecommunity members may feel that officers are not approachable on the street. Coffeewith a Cop breaksdown barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported byThe United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented PolicingServices. Similar events are being held across the country, as local policedepartments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing throughimproving relationships between police officers and community members, one cupof coffee at a time.
