Metcalf Road closure scheduled for Thursday, October 18

Avon, CO—Metcalf Road in Avon is scheduled to close in both directions for drainage improvements starting Thursday, October 18, with a tentative re-opening a week later on Friday, October 26.  The Town of Avon is in the process of installing six drainage culverts across Metcalf Road, the lowest one near the Metcalf Commercial Park / Holy Cross Substation and the upper one just below The Baranacas.

The actual road closure will take place just south of 281 Metcalf Road (Metcalf Commercial Park).   Those accessing addresses north of 281 Metcalf Road (residences in Wildridge and Wildwood) from Avon will need to use the detour.  Those accessing addresses below 281 Metcalf from Wildridge will need to use the detour.  Businesses and residents along Nottingham road will not be affected.

The detour around the road construction will take residents and tenants around the Mountain Star community for approximately one week. Traffic Control will be provided at all times to direct residents and tenants where to go.  Please allow an additional 10 to 15 minutes for your daily commute during this road closure.

The road construction along Metcalf Road is being completed in order to improve the drainage infrastructure that will reduce the likely hood of Metcalf Road washing out during a large storm event.  The project includes the removal of a 48" diameter culvert and replacing it with two (2) 66"x 51" culverts, 4 culvert enlargements and relocation of several underground utilities.  This is the final phase of a multi-year drainage improvements project along Metcalf Gulch; previous enhancements included a channel enlargement around the Aspens Trailer Park, under Interstate-70 and under Nottingham Road.

Construction on the project is expected to last through mid-November.

Residents and guests are asked to drive carefully around construction personnel and equipment and exercise patience as there will be impacts and traffic delays.  Please call Jamie Pappas with the Town of Avon Engineering Department at 748-4114 if you have any questions concerning this work.
