Recreational Paths & Trails
Overview
The Town of Avon is a great place to recreate. Paved recreational paths around Nottingham Park, along the Eagle River, and on the northwest side of town offer the opportunity to walk, jog or bike while enjoying the town's mountain landscape.

Recreational Trail Building Program Adopted
The Town of Avon is going beyond our current obligations to the USDA Forest Service to make trail and trail head improvements in response to the overwhelming support voiced by residents and second home owners in the 2008 Community Survey. Avon has just adopted a comprehensive Recreational Trails Master Plan that will be implemented over the next few years and results in improving existing recreational trails, adding new trails, and restoring non-sustainable trails. More options for hiking, mountain biking, snow showing, kite flying, and other non-motorized activities will be coming to Avon. A presentation to Town Council by Rob Janusz, Superintendent of Parks, on February 24, 2009 describes the new program. Potential future trail locations, capital and operating costs are discussed.

Town staff are seeking grant opportunities for trail projects and a Trail Advisory Board has been formed to coordinate a largely volunteer effort for trail construction and annual maintenance. We hope you get involved!

Please take a moment after reading the Recreational Trails Master Plan and viewing the presentation to give us your feedback.

Avon Trails Advisory Group
On Friday, November 6, 2009, from 3-5 pm, the Town of Avon will be hosting an Avon Trails Advisory Group Meeting at the Avon Public Library.

The Town of Avon is seeking to create an Avon Trails Advisory Group to help town staff steer future trail projects as outlined in the Recreational Trails Master Plan.  This group will consist of 3 to 5 fulltime, year-round residents of the Town of Avon, and will meet approximately 5 times per year to discuss yearly construction/maintenance projects utilizing available funds and volunteer efforts.  Participation in public events, fundraising activities, volunteer coordination, construction planning/participation, and project prioritization is expected.

Applications can be submitted online or for further information, please call Avon Public Works at 970-748-4100.
