The Avon Police Department (APD) offers internships to high school or college students who are interested in pursuing a degree in criminal justice and or becoming a police officer.  The Internship Program strives to provide a quality educational experience to high school or college students by providing the student with a positive "hands on" learning environment in the field of law enforcement, while enhancing their understanding of the criminal justice system.

Interns spend time in each section of the department, working with Patrol Officers, Detectives, Dispatch, Records and Information Services, Community Services, and more.  APD offers unpaid internship opportunities for high school and college students and attempts to balance the high school or college internship program requirements with the Avon Police Department Internship Program.

Participation Requirements

In order to participate in our internship program, you must:

  • Be a junior or senior in high school or
  • Currently enrolled in college
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Have a valid state driver’s license
  • Have engaged in no criminal activity in the last 3-5 years (including drug usage)

If you interested in applying, print an application, and submit to the Avon Police Department or Matt Jamison.  Also, include a letter of intent explaining why you are interested in being an APD Intern, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor, and a copy of your unofficial transcripts.  Interns are selected on a first come first serve basis.  A maximum of 220 internship hours is allowed.
