Boards and Commissions
Overview
The Community Development Department oversees several Boards and Commissions.

Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission’s purpose is to guide and accomplish a coordinated, adjusted and harmonious development of the municipality and its environs in order to best promote health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare, as well as efficiency and economy in the process of development.

The Commission considers, among other things, adequate provision for traffic, the promotion of safety from fire, floodwaters and other dangers, adequate provision for light and air, the promotion of good civic design and arrangement, wise and efficient expenditure of public funds and the adequate provision of public utilities and other public requirements.

Historical Preservation Committee
The Historical Preservation Committee was established to protect and enhance the Town's welfare and economy through the preservation of historical attractions for local residents, tourists and visitors to the Town. The Committee works to expand public awareness, appreciation and knowledge of the Town's unique local history, and foster widespread appreciation and respect for Avon's historic and cultural heritage.
