Ride Avon First

The Town of Avon is thrilled to announce the inaugural Ride Avon First! event, celebrating Avon’s paths and trails.  Ride Avon First! will include educational hiking tours at the West Avon Preserve, a town wide scavenger hunt on bikes, modular pump track, and kids’ mountain bike skills course, with food, music and retail vendors! This first ever event promises to celebrate what makes riding and hiking in Avon so special!

Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect: 

  • Walking Mountains Science Center/West Avon Preserve
    • Providing on site activation with games and activities at the Walking Mountains Science Center, as well as leading hikes every hour from 11:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. from the Center.
    • Learn about the protected penstemon and wildlife found in the Preserve.
  • Avid for Adventure Mountain Bike Course
    • A portable mountain bike course with passionate instructors to encourage children to explore new possibilities on bikes. Helmets, bikes, and instructions are included at the course.
    • The course and instruction will build confidence from new skill sets in young riders.
    • Designed for beginner to advance riders.
  • Progressive Bike Pump Track
    • A modular pump track with talented staff to facilitate games and friendly competition.
    • Safe and fun for all ages and skill-levels.  Watch for the program schedule.
  • “Find Avon First” Scavenger Hunt
    • Dart around Avon in a hunt for forgotten places, off-the-wall items, new amenities, and little known facts! Part bike race, part scavenger hunt, and part Town exploration.
    • The “Find Avon First” scavenger hunt will test participants’ ability to solve clues and crunch mind-bending riddles while going head-to-head with teams in a race to the finish line!
    • Enjoy a beer or cold beverage along the way!
    • Prizes, too.
  • Music, Food Trucks and General Merriment
    • A great DJ with music from 1:30 to 6:30 pm
    • Family entertainment, including face painters and balloon artists
    • Great local eats from a variety of food trucks and local vendors
    • Beer and wine provided by the Humane Society
