Battle Mountain Boys Basketball leads Mini & Mighty Mites Clinics at Avon Elementary School

Avon, Colorado- The Avon Recreation Department proudly kicked off its Mighty Mites and Mini Mites Basketball Clinic for Kindergarten through 5th graders last week. The six week long clinic offers youth participants the opportunity to learn and practice basketball skills under the guidance of community volunteers including the Battle Mountain High School Basketball team, led by Coach Phil Tronsrue.

“We are more than happy to be able to do this with Avon Elementary School,” said Boys Basketball Coach, Phil Tronsrue. The Battle Mountain High School Basketball team has partnered with the Avon Recreation Department to offer a community program run by the community. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Battle Mountain High School Boys Basketball team as a fundraiser. “The idea of creating a program that supports both schools was a no-brainer” states Recreation Coordinator, Matt Koch. “I envision this model expanding beyond basketball to other sports. I think we are laying seed for this to become a great opportunity for student athletes to give back for generations to come.”

That sentiment was echoed by Avon Elementary School Principal, Leroy Getchell, who told Huskie players, “Thank you so much for doing this for our kids! What a boost for them and a way to get them excited about basketball.” Participants in Kindergarten and first grade practice Monday afternoons from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and the second, third, fourth and fifth graders practice Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Please contact Matt Koch with the Recreation Department at mkoch@avon.org or 970-748-4057 with inquiries regarding this program.
