Avon Voters to be Surveyed About Future of
Avon, CO – At the February 26th Avon Town Council meeting, the Town Council passed a motion to refer a survey question to registered Avon voters concerning the Hahnewald Barn Phase 1 Project. The Town Council has received substantial public input in support and in opposition to the Hahnewald Barn Phase 1 Project, which led to their decision to solicit input from all registered voters in a community survey format. Phase 1 of the Hahnewald Barn Project would include moving the Hahnewald Barn to the old Town Hall site and placing the structure on a permanent foundation in order to permanently preserve the barn. The cost estimate for Phase 1 is $1 million for moving and preservation of the Hahnewald Barn, plus $600,000 for demolition of the old Town Hall.
Prior to their decision, the Town Council reviewed draft versions of a potential Survey Question and a Fact Sheet that describes the Hahnewald Barn Phase 1 Project and the community survey process. Direction was provided to gather public input on both the Survey Question and Fact Sheet before they are finalized and sent to Avon registered voters.
The draft versions of the Survey Question and Fact Sheet, as presented to the Town Council during the February 26th Council meeting, are available for review at www.avon.org/barn. The Town will accept emailed comments on both documents until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4th, at which time Town staff will make an effort to incorporate comments that are appropriate neutral, objective and accurate. Emailed comments should be sent to email@example.com. A revised Survey Question and Fact Sheet will be posted to www.avon.org/barn no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4th.
A Community Meeting is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, March 5th at 8:30 a.m. at Avon Town Hall. At that meeting, Town staff will present the revisions that were made to both the Survey Question and Fact Sheet, and attendees will have an opportunity to provide additional comments or suggested revisions to the language. The goal by the end of the Community Meeting will be to finalize the language in a way that is generally acceptable, accurate, fair and neutral. Once the language is finalized, full mail ballots will be prepared and mailed to all qualified Avon electors. Voters must follow the submittal instructions identified on the Survey Question ballot. Ballots must be received by the Town of Avon by 5:00 p.m. on March 27th. Surveys may be mailed or dropped off at Avon Town Hall.
