Avon’s Plastic Bag Ban and Disposable Paper Bag Fee go into effect on May 1st
Alpine Bank and Town of Avon have partnered on development of reusable bags to help facilitate transition
Avon, CO – The Town of Avon and Alpine Bank would like to remind residents that a big change is coming on May 1st. Last fall, the Avon Town Council enacted a ban on disposable plastic bags being provided by retailers to customers at the point of sale. That ban goes into effect on May 1st and applies to all retailers in the Town of Avon. In addition to the prohibition on disposable plastic bags and to incentivize people to turn to reusable bags, retailers will collect a $0.10 fee on each paper bag consumed by customers at the point of sale.
To aid the upcoming transition, the Town recently partnered with Alpine Bank on the development of reusable bags that will be distributed to members of the public without charge. Timothy Haley, Commercial Banking Officer with Alpine Bank, spearheaded Alpine Bank’s participation in the program and firmly believes in the importance of ensuring each and every resident is informed and equipped for the upcoming change. “Alpine Bank has been serving communities across Colorado for the past 45 years. As a community bank we felt we could serve the residents of Avon and the surrounding areas by providing complimentary reusable bags before the ban goes into effect. We are looking forward to seeing an Alpine Bank/Town of Avon sponsored reusable bag in the hands of as many people as possible,” said Haley. Another element to Alpine Bank’s partnership with the Town of Avon is that they will sponsor the 32nd annual Salute to the USA, the Town’s signature event, on July 3rd in Harry A. Nottingham Park.
The Alpine Bank/Town of Avon sponsored reusable bags (pictured below) are complimentary and now available at a variety of places, including Avon Town Hall and Alpine Bank’s Avon location. Stop by and get yours today!
