Planning the Future of Town Properties  

Online Survey Launched and Public Meeting scheduled for June 8th   

Avon, CO – The Town is seeking input on land use concepts for Nottingham Park, described as “Tract G”, as well as the Wildridge Fire Station site and other Town-owned properties.  An online survey was launched and a public meeting is scheduled for June 8th, 5:30 p.m., to be held at Town Hall.
The public meeting will focus on prioritization and real-time polling to better collect community sentiment.  The polling at the public meeting, coupled with survey results, will help shape the final land use plans for eventual consideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission and Town Council.  The land use plans, a working paper focused on the multi-modal transportation and parking solutions, and the survey, can all be found at
Design Workshop and LSC Transportation Consultants were retained by the Town of Avon in late 2016 to advance previous planning efforts.  Both firms have extensive mountain resort experience with land use and transportation solutions.  The project is primarily focused on the future uses on the east side of Nottingham Park near the existing Town Hall and Fire Station properties. Other Town-owned properties are also under review including: a 4-acre parcel east of Home Depot and the Wildridge Fire Station site.  A fresh look at advancing the Town’s multi-modal transportation and parking network will integrate with the land use plans.
Initial conceptual plans for the properties were developed based on a review of existing master plans and input from a two-day work session in February, with more than 60 community stakeholders participating.  In-progress concepts for Tract G and the Wildridge Fire Station property are summarized below:   
Tract G
Up for review and comment are three distinct concepts for the east side of Nottingham Park, focused on areas adjacent to Lake Street and the Nottingham Performance Pavilion. In all scenarios, the Recreation Center expansion and a Main Street Pedestrian Mall connection to the park are included. 
Highlights of the Tract G plans include:
'Avon Brimming’ (focus on as many programs as possibly fit)
  • Ice Rink and skating ribbon, recreation center expansion, indoor ice facility, relocated Hahnewald historic barn structure, events and artists, FIFA sized soccer field, pump track, and a mixed-use building adjacent to the library to include a food collective.
‘Avon in Action’ (focus on recreation)
  • Outdoor splash pad and event plaza in front of expanded Recreation Center, relocated Hahnewald historic barn structure for art collective, game plaza and pickle ball area adjacent to covered multi-use pavilion, and various picnic, play facilities.
‘Avon Advantage’ (focus on vitality)
  • Events pavilion, restaurant, art collective, art collective space adjacent to Library, and various picnic facilities.
Wildridge Fire Station
Based upon feedback received during the February 22nd community meeting, and further study of the property, two scenarios have been developed for the Wildridge Fire Station.  One scenario maintains and expands first responder housing, with adjacent pocket park retained.  A second concept explores the possibility of a Wildridge Community Center, maintaining the adjacent park space, and includes flexible space on the first floor of the building for meetings, exercise classes, etc. Other ideas from the community meeting include a coffee shop or small general store, and deed-restricted resident housing.
Multi-modal Transportation and Parking Plan
A multi-modal transportation and parking plan focusing on the Town’s commercial core is being completed. The plan quantifies current parking demand; forecasts future parking demand based upon existing zoning and development plans; and, locates surface and/or structure parking for demand in the Town core. Recommendations integrate concepts from the Town’s Comprehensive Plan to include transit, walking, bike routes, etc. A draft working paper is on the Town’s website for review, and a final draft plan will be uploaded to the website when completed in the coming weeks. The plan confirms that the current parking supply is adequate, and that further pedestrian safety improvements are warranted in the commercial core area.
