COVID-19 Updates for Monday, March 16th

Town of Avon conducting business remotely when possible

Avon, CO – Due to the extensive spread of COVID-19 in a number of mountain resort communities, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) strongly recommends that anyone who lives in or has visited those communities in the past week minimize their contact with other people, in order to reduce the spread of the virus. Anyone who has been in Eagle, Summit, Pitkin or Gunnison counties in the past week should minimize all contact with other people, whether or not they are experiencing symptoms.

Now that we have rapidly identified the arrival of COVID-19 in Eagle County, our focus is to slow the spread of the virus, protect our medical infrastructure, and protect the most vulnerable people in our community. Testing all patients with mild symptoms of COVID-19 is no longer recommended. A key priority is to shift our testing to people that are at greatest risk for severe disease, complications, and death.

Symptoms of COVID-19 are fever of 100.4 degrees F or higher, cough, or shortness of breath. Those who are experiencing symptoms but are not getting tested are asked to self-report symptoms at https://bit.ly/39XFRne.

The following patients with COVID-19 symptoms are considered at highest priority for testing:

  • Healthcare workers
  • Employed in public safety occupation (e.g., law enforcement, fire fighter, EMS)
  • Part of an illness cluster in a facility or institution (e.g., healthcare, school, corrections, shelters)
  • With severe lower respiratory illness (hospitalized or fatal)
  • With worsening symptoms
  • Older than 60 years
  • With underlying medical conditions
  • Pregnant women
  • Had contact with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 patient

Any other patients can be tested per healthcare provider judgment.

The Town of Avon continues to take aggressive measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community. We have adjusted our protocols to emphasize social distancing practices in our day-to-day municipal operations. We ask that you conduct as much business with the Town of Avon as possible via phone and/or online services.

As of Monday, March 16th, operational changes include the following:

Avon Recreation Center is closed until at least April 8, 2020 in response to the Eagle County Public Health and Environment Order issued March 12, 2020 which prohibits gatherings of more than 50 persons. All recreation center passes will be extended through the duration of the facility closure. All recreation programs through the closure are cancelled, and the program fees will be refunded as a household credit to the members’ accounts.

Transit Operations are continuing with modifications. The Avon Skier Express and the evening Restaurant Shuttle will not operate while Beaver Creek Mountain Resort is closed. The Red Line, Blue Line, and the Night Rider will operate per schedule. For Beaver Creek Village, please transfer to the Beaver Creek bus at the Elk lot.
