Avon, CO – Two important topics will be discussed in work sessions on June 13th, during Council’s regular evening meeting. SHORT TERM RENTAL WORKSESSION
Town Council will hold a work session on June 13th, during its regular meeting, to assess options for identifying short term rental units and enforcing town codes. Council is being asked to provide direction to staff regarding monitoring and enforcement of the Town of Avon’s Short Term Rental (STR) codes, which require every person who advertises for rent an accommodation unit(s) or room(s) used for accommodation for a for a period of fewer than thirty (30) days to have a business license and to pay accommodation and sales taxes. With the services of online listing services, such as Airbnb and VRBO, the tracking of STR units is difficult. A set of options have been developed for the Town Council to consider.
BROADBAND – REVIEW OF SENATE BILL 152 EXEMPTION
In the past few years, 68 municipalities and 28 counties have placed measures on the ballot to overrides SB 05-152’s prohibitions on towns and counties to provide high speed broadband service. An exemption allows municipalities the right to provide advanced service (high speed internet), cable television service, or telecommunications service, directly or indirectly with public and/or private sector partners, to residents, businesses, schools, health care facilities, libraries, nonprofit entities, and other users of such services located within the boundaries of the municipality. Discussion in the work session will include the opportunities for broadband development and timing for a ballot question.
