Metcalf Road Bicycle Climbing Lane Project Complete

Metcalf Road Climbing Lane
Avon, CO – The Metcalf Road Bicycle Climbing Lane Project, which links Nottingham Road to Wildwood Road, is complete. The project broke ground in June and widened Metcalf Road 4 to 6 feet to accommodate a bicycle climbing lane in the uphill lane. The 1.8 mile climbing lane  makes it safer for bicycle traffic to travel uphill toward the Wildridge community and also creates another way to access the West Avon Preserve. In addition to the road widening, drainage improvements were made to the commercial area on the lower east side of Metcalf Road. Downhill bicycle traffic will ride with the flow of vehicular traffic in the downhill lane.
The Town of Avon contracted with Ewing Construction to complete the project at a cost of $1.1 million. An upper segment of the Metcalf Road Bicycle Climbing Lane Project between Wildwood Road to Old Trail Road is scheduled to be paved in the spring of 2017.
